Composite HDPE enclosures deliver the structural performance of traditional concrete boxes at a fraction of the weight, making them the go-to choice for broadband, telecom, and utility crews who need to move fast without sacrificing load ratings. These boxes won’t crack, chip, or corrode and a two-person crew can set them by hand in most sizes, which means no crane truck and no waiting around for heavy equipment.
Galloway stocks composite enclosures from two manufacturers: the Channell BULK series (HDPE bodies with SHIELD high-strength covers) and the Oldcastle Dura-lite series (polyolefin blend straight-wall construction). Both product lines are rated to ANSI/SCTE 77 and cover the size range your crews need for everything from small splice points to full-size vault installations.
Oldcastle Dura-lite Series
The Oldcastle Dura-lite series uses a polyolefin blend with straight-wall construction that makes installation straightforward—no tapered walls means the usable interior space matches the nominal dimensions. Bodies are fire-resistant per ASTM D635 with a material density of 0.960–0.980 g/cm³ (ASTM D1505). Dura-lite enclosures are available in Tier 15 and Tier 22 configurations depending on the cover pairing.
The Dura-lite weight advantage over polymer concrete is significant—particularly in larger sizes where the difference can exceed 200 lbs per unit. This translates directly to faster installations, fewer crew members needed per set, and lower shipping costs per truckload.
Channell BULK Series
The Channell BULK line is purpose-built for telecom and broadband deployment. Bodies are rotationally molded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE)—a single-piece construction with no seams or joints to fail. The SHIELD cover system uses a patented anti-slip, anti-trip surface design and is tested to ANSI/SCTE 77 Tier 22 (33,750 lbf test load).
Channell rates the SHIELD cover for 3 million fatigue cycles under their EST™ (Extended Service Testing) protocol, which simulates decades of real-world vehicle crossings. Interior organization options include embedded vertical racking and flush-mounted sidewall rack systems for cable management.
All BULK boxes accept standard mouseholes for conduit entry. The complete BULK series spans nine sizes (BULK 0 through BULK 8), covering nominal dimensions from 12”×12” up to 48”×60” with depth options from 6” to 48”.
